A handmade protest sign created by Rïse Peacock in 2020, featuring a poem from Nayyirah Waheed’s book Nejma. This sign was made for a silent vigil and protest Rïse attended in their rural hometown community of Allegany County.
[Image description: This image shows a handmade sign placed on the grass. The sign is made of pink cardboard with blue and red hand-painted text. The text reads: “there is dark. and there is anti-light these are not the same things. - NAYYIRAH WAHEED” The quote is attributed to Nayyirah Waheed with her name written in red at the bottom of the sign. The rest of the text is written in blue, with some letters appearing slightly uneven and stylized.]
